3 Tips for At-Home Nail Care

Hi, Polished People! I hope you're all doing well. I know lots of you have concerns about nail care right now, especially if you're a salon-goer. So, I decided to put together this post with some of my best tips for at-home nail TLC. I hope these help you out!

1. File, don't trim

If your nails could use a little shaping or need to be shortened, use a nail file instead of nail clippers. Admittedly, I don't always remember to do this (because I'm impatient), but I want to try harder. I highly recommend using a nail file and filing your nails in one direction. This prevents breakage because you're not being as harsh on your nails. If you don't have a nail file that will work, just use some nail clippers and be gentle; clip smaller sections of your nails, just a little at a time, so it's not as shocking to your nail/nail bed.

Also, use a glass nail file if you have one! Here's a *link for one if you're interested: https://amzn.to/2Yut08P

2. Remember to moisturize your hands, cuticles, and nails

Keeping your skin/nails hydrated and moisturized can really help with your overall nail-health. I've been trying to come up with more of a routine for this. I recommend using hand cream as needed or before bed and using cuticle cream or oil before pushing your cuticles. When you use any of these products, remember to massage them into your nails as well so they can receive the benefits as well.

I've been using a variety of different creams and things lately, but here's a *link to a specific hands and nails cream I tried out recently (link to 2-pack): https://amzn.to/2SvqYBJ

3. Don't "mess" with your nails

Especially right now, a lot of us are feeling a little stressed from time to time. Please do your best to refrain from disturbing your nails. Biting, picking, and peeling are just not healthy for you or your nails, so do your best to leave them be.

If you're struggling with nail biting, check out this video from the CutePolish channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPDnYSDSrnw.

If you have gotten into the habit of picking at/peeling your nails when you're fidgeting, try consciously reminding yourself not to do that or try fidgeting with something else. Doodle, crochet, hey, break out the old fidget spinners!

I know all of these habits are different for everyone, so just do whatever works best for you and helps you stay healthy and happy.

I hope you found these tips helpful! I actually used to have a dedicated "nail support" email here on my channel, so if you need any more help/advice, please feel free to leave a comment below or head over to the Contact page. Stay safe and healthy, everyone. ❤︎

Have a polished rest of your day,

- Cali
