Disney Descendants 2 Nail Art Series: Uma and Harry ~ threesixtynails Pop Culture Series ~ Step-by-Step
Good afternoon, everyone! Week 3 of the Descendants Series is happening! Today, we're looking at the designs inspired by Uma, daughter of Ursula, and Harry, son of Captain Hook. Let's get into it!
Four new VKs were introduced in the sequel: Uma, Harry, Gil, and Dizzy. (Gil and Dizzy nails are coming next week!) Uma, Harry, and Gil are all pirates, and what goes best with pirates? Sword fighting and pirate ships! The entire cast had a fun but challenging learning curve for their sword fighting scenes. "...I'm like 5'2" and quite petite. And I am not meant to sword fight anybody, even China who is very small as well," said Dove Cameron. But their scenes turned out fantastic!
The movie's costume designer, Kara Saun, really got to step up her game in this second film. She was inspired by Ursula's eyeshadow color in the original "The Little Mermaid", which is a turquoise/aqua color. This became Uma's signature color. And Harry ended up having his father's trademark hook as a family heirloom!
Below is the polishes/tools list with links and below that are the step-by-steps. Enjoy!
Polishes/Tools used to create this design:
(Uma)
"Turned Up Turquoise" - China Glaze
"Songbird Serenade" - China Glaze
"One Polished Pony" - China Glaze
(Harry)
Dotting Tool or Toothpick
(both)
"Best Ponies Forever" - China Glaze
Detailing Nail Art Brush or Toothpick
Step 1: Apply a coat of a turquoise/aqua color that matches the shade Uma always wears as well as you like.
Step 2: To mimic the seaweed look of Uma's skirt, grab that same turquoise/aqua, a black or shimmery black, a gold, a light blue, and a detailing brush or toothpick. Make wavy stripes coming down/up from your cuticle, alternating colors.
Step 3: Using the same black/shimmery black, make a stripe across the top third of your nail, covering the uneven edges of the stripes.
Step 4: Finish with top coat!
Step 1: Grab a metallic red polish that matches the color of Harry's coat as well as you like and use as your base color.
Step 2: Draw the base of Harry's hook with black acrylic paint (or polish) and a detailing nail art brush or toothpick at the edge of your nail from any angle; be sure to leave space for the hook.
Step 3: Now draw a question mark shape as the hook coming out from the base; correct shape with base polish if needed.
Step 4: Add a representation of the compass on Harry's icon with a simple silver starburst and fill space with gold and silver dots.
Step 5: Protect your hook with top coat!
And your new swashbuckling designs are all finished! Descendants fun fact: Did you know that all the pirate costumes in the film were dubbed "Skallywag Swag" by Kara Saun? So cool! Comment below which duo of these two you'd like to see next week:
Gil and Dizzy
or
Audrey and Ben
