Anyway, hello, Polished People. I hope you're doing well. Today, I'm sharing my written review of the brand-new China Glaze Halloween Collection for 2020. I've already shared my YouTube review over on my channel, so you can click here to watch the full video.
I'm pretty sure I'm the first one to review this collection on YouTube, so that's exciting! This video is doing so well already, so thank you to everyone who's shown support. I really appreciate it. ❤️
Now, without further ado, let's get on with the review.
First up is "Hex Boyfriend," a beautiful deep-green matte shimmer. This polish didn't have the best formula; it was very thick and difficult to apply. However, this is my second-fave in the collection and I think the formula is worth it. I prefer how this one looks matte, it has this really unique velvet-y/felt finish. With careful application, this one looked good in two coats. Really fun for fall!
This next matte (yes, another one) is called "Covens & Caviar." This one is just a plain black polish that dries to a plain matte finish. The formula on this one was even more thick and goopy than "Hex Boyfriend," so it was incredibly difficult to apply. It looked okay in two coats. If you're in need of a black matte mani, I would recommend getting a regular black polish and a matte top coat. (The finish of this one gives me "Rudolph's fake nose" vibes. From the Animagic Christmas special? Anyone else?)
Another matte (last one, I promise), this one is called "Kiss & Spell." It's a really pretty dark-magenta, burgundy polish with yellow-gold/orange-y shimmer. I didn't even know this one was matte, but the formula was significantly better than the other two; it applied just like a normal polish. The application was a little patchy and I prefer how this one looks glossy. This one was good in three coats, but you might be able to get it in two with very careful application. Classic fall polish!
Onto regular polishes, here we have "Having a Crystal Ball," a gorgeous blue-violet duochrome shimmer. This one is a little pearl-y, but it doesn't apply like a pearl polish (i.e. no brushstroke issues). At first, I was worried the formula wouldn't be great, so this picture is three coats. I did apply it again later and was able to get it opaque in two coats, so it really depends on your nail length and application. This one would also be a fun topper!
Next up is "Spell the Tea" (favorite name in the collection), a really interesting gunmetal-coffee shimmer with some pinkish-red fleck shimmer. This one has the same shimmer as "Sin-derella" from a China Glaze Halloween collection from a few years ago. Formula was pretty good, it was opaque in two coats. Super unique!
I saved the best for last! Our final polish is called "Payback's a Witch" and it's a gorgeous slightly-burnt pumpkin orange shimmer with a yellow-gold flash. The formula on this one was great and it's just so sparkly! I had a feeling this one would be my favorite when I first saw the collection. I'm actually a big fan of orange polishes. This beauty is opaque in two coats. This is like painting fall on your nails!
I also picked up the Ghoulish Glow Polish, China Glaze's glow-in-the-dark top coat. You'll be able to see a little clip of it in my review video. It glows super bright in the bottle, but I couldn't really see it at all on my nails. One of the commenters on the video suggested wearing it over a white polish, so I'll give that a try one day. I'd like to try some glow-in-the-dark nail art!
